Qatar has come a long way since implementing a health care reform. Qatar opened its first hospital in 1957. Today citizens enjoy state of the art health care and medical services, in both public and private provider settings, by using a government issued health card.
Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV2030) is a vision of Qatar becoming an advanced society capable of sustainable development with the goal of providing a high standard of living for all citizens by the year 2030. In an article, The Washington times was quoted, “Qatar describes this vision as a beacon that guides economic, social, human and environmental development of the country for the coming decades, so that it is inclusive and helpful for the citizens and residents of Qatar in various aspects of their lives”.
A model for the world, The Qatar National Vision seeks to provide a high standard of living for all its citizens by the year 2030. The vision is a series of 4 interconnected pillars: human/health, social, economic, and environmental development.
Qatar’s Initiative
As part of Qatar’s initiative, the Qatar diabetes association (QDA) – non profit organization and member of the international diabetes foundation (IDF) endeavors to lead the region and the world in prevention and care of diabetes. A report published by the Ministry of Public Health, State of Qatar, Doha, QAT in a May 2018 “ The country has encountered a rapid socio-economic development in recent past few decades that led to a change in lifestyles of the population influenced by things such as easily available fast food, increased use of personal vehicles for transportation, increased screen time and fewer chances of being physically active etc. Diabetes and associated risk factors such as obesity and lack of physical activity are now considered major public health challenges in Qatar”.
In a collaborative effort, firms from around the world have been invited to participate and develop joint initiatives to support this effort. From Buffalo NY GRD Global health was invited to participate in a 5 day working session to develop commercial initiatives to support the Qatar vision.
Over the 5 day session, Gerald R. Dewes president of GRD global health met with top executives in Government, food distribution, and manufacturing sectors. Ahmed Sheraz director of QT22 distribution, the leading food distributor in the Middle east, Announced a new partnership with GRD Global health to work in conjunction with QT22 distribution and Qatar government to invest in a series of projects to enhance the healthy food offerings to its citizens. “Incorporating GRD Global health’s global reach as part of the QNV2030 initiative will help Qatar find the solutions it needs to better health of youth and adults in this country”.
As part of the partnership, GRD Global health will introduce a no sugar fruit drink line for food service and retail outlets throughout the country. GRD Global health will undertake as part of its commitment to youth a dedicated product development program to create kid friendly drink and slush mixes. In addition, GRD Global health will use its breadth of worldwide sourcing expertise to manage development of a Bluezone health center and product line, starting with Blue zone Nicoya (costa rica) https://www.bluezones.com/exploration/nicoya-costa-rica/ products.
As part of the project GRD Global health will bring its natural, no additive Himalayan salt products, which are mined in the Himalayan mountain range from Pakistan.
Qatar investors have pledged financial support to work in partner with GRD Global health in developing a Blue zone conference center in DOHA open to the public to showcase healthy product alternatives, as well as host industry and government education programs. Longevity expert and National Geographic Explorer of Blue Zones Dan Buettner says “A long healthy life is no accident, it begins with good genes, but it also depends on good habits”
GRD Global health will also begin importation of multiple sugar free organic syrups for use by coffee shops and other retail outlets. Robert Van Olm regional manager of European and Middle East operations for Amherst Industries, inc. a US based supplier of consumer ready products said “We are ecstatic GRD Global Health will provide access to these products which manufactured in Latin America, taking advantage of the finest organically grown fruits. This is a true win for Qatar” Qatar, by defining long-term outcomes for the country, provides a framework within which national strategies and implementation plans can be successful. It assists government-led strategies, to realize a unified goal. QNV provides private sector companies, and individuals with a shared purpose. It is common companies and businesses make reference to QNV2030 within their mission statements. It would be wise for many countries throughout the globe to do as well also.
